Since watching the music video 'love he way you lie' and since looking into the different types of domestic abuse, it has real opened our eyes to the thought of presenting out protagonists internal emotions, so that our product does not just focus around the concept of physical abuse, as that may seem to obvious and generic. I have talked about this briefly throughout, about my groups plan to incorporate the inner emotions of our protagonist, and we have now finalised what we are going to do. In order to create another dimension to our character, we have decided that shooting the character internal thoughts is the best possible way to clearly get across our message that this character is being internally oppressed opposed to just physically being oppressed. Due to our character having blond hair in some of the clips, we thought that it would be difficult to portray her inner emotions, whilst having the same hair colour as our audience might get confused between reality and imaginary. So we have decided that our main character is going to haver darker hair to present her darker emotions. The dark hair in comparison to the lighter hair the audience see before, will present how this innocent character has a darker state of mind, where we truly see what that character is feeling and not just what she portrays though her movement. The character new look will be completely different from the previous shots we have captured, and along with her hair, her costume and make up will change dramatically, becoming dark and obscure, so it is in stark contrast to our previous creation of the character. The characters new role will present the building pressure, which has been a major concept all the way through.
Our initial idea was to use objects such as a clock and slot it between the shots of the protagonists arguing to present the idea of pressure. However, we thought that it would be much more beneficial to instead of showing pressure through objects, we would show it through presenting the inner emotions of the character, who will to some extent present some sort of restriction and oppression, but not just by solely using an object alone. This means that we will no longer need the pulley system that we previously were going to use to convey pressure.
The characters make up will be extremely dark and heavy, with her skin lightened with lighter foundation, so it highlights further the extravagant make- up. The make-up around her eyes and cheekbones will be heavy to accentuate her features, making them unnaturally visible, and her nails and lips to be black.
Her costume should be black, however, we needed to form links between the characters two personas, and either believe the dress should be long and elegant, yet plain, like the white dress, or heavily detailed with the same style dress to create an slightly more estranged style. Although, i personally like the plain dress that covers more of her body that the previous dress so that it can represent her imprisonment as well as present her to be more lifeless, due to the almost scary corps like appearance that we would like her to have. Eve's hair should also be wild to reflect the build up of pressure. Our group would also like to look into the possibilities of using a smoke machine, chains, and other props that would represent further that this is the emotions she feels inside, and does not show outside, due to the physical and metal constraints.
New darker side make-up
The eye make up should be dark emphasising specific assets of the female protagonist. The make up should be dream like and surreal to accentuate the mis-en-scene of the shot.

Make -up
These images were taken while eve experimented with how we want the make up to look in the alter ego 'dark angel' scenes. Eve did the base make up(foundation and eye brows) and then went on to do the first eye, the images after show the steps she went through.
1. Black eye shadow on in the crease up to the brow bone
2. Black eye liner on top eyelid and white eyeliner in the lower waterline
3. Apply top eyelashes
4. Apply bottom eyelashes
This look makes Eve's eyes almost doll like which we believe is very effective.
Hair
Within these video's, Eve shows how she s going to stye her hair for the scene where we shoot her inner emotions.
These two shots are what Eve has taken to show what the final hair and make- up will look like, although it will look much darker under the lighting.
This is a piece of music was composed by our group with a pianist. We showed him our latest edit and expressed what we were going to do for the later part of filming where we show the internal thoughts of the protagonist. Although we wanted counterpoint sound, we also felt it necessary to incorporate music, that alone, was saddening and expressive, for the scenes where we were going to shoot her inner emotions.
However, although the repetitive sound of the same note could come across as monotonous, as it is extended for a long period of time, i believe it captures the essence of how long these situations can last, and the length of damage it can cause for an individual emotionally. We needed the overall pace of the music to be slow, however the change in speed creates a beautifully saddening effect, representing how domestic abuse is like a roller coaster and is unclear on what is going to happen next. Moreover, i do agree with the rest of my group that the length of the repetitive note needs to be shortened to give a more hard hitting effect so it does not become boring for the audience. I believe that this is a great start to what our group is looking to present within our section when we portray the protagonists emotions.
Like the Hollyoaks advert, the piece of music should be in sync with the emotions and actions that are going on in the shot. The music should climax at the point where we have the climax within our footage between the mother and the father when he abuses her, and become calmer within the shots between the mother and daughter and should replicate that of a music box to cast an eery feel as well as a saddening tone upon the product. The piece of music used will be written by us and tailored to our product.
This is what one person thought about our edit 4
The first shot we believe would be the best shot for an opening shot as it portrays a family together, and resembles something of a family photo. This beginning shot is allows the audience to think that the rest of the footage will present them in a happy state, but the dark lighting suggests there is more to be reviled. This long shot is great as you can see the space around the character, but their identity is hidden, so that we do not give too much away within the opening shot. The first face they see is the childs' which allows the audience to create a connection with her whilst the parents remain unattached.
All edits and footage have no sound as we recorded it without sound as we knew we wanted music instead of dialogue within our final product. So once we have finished filming our last bit of footage, then the music will be added. The aim of the scenes with the child was to make the shot as natural and realistic as possible as we as a group wanted to imitate home footage, but with the twist of it being in a controlled environment so that we could manipulate the lighting. We thought it would be most effective if we kept the camera running to try and capture the raw relationship between the mother (Eve) and the daughter (Bella). However, we all as a group believe that the most effective shot is at the end where the balloon in front of the mother cross fades into the balloon that the child is holding.
When editing our footage, initially, wanted to present the violent conduct between the man and the woman and having the child in the different shots to present how she is still apart of this situation, but isn't as tainted as the mother as we have preserved her innocence, by having her in the different shots were the actual violence doesn't takes place. This is to showcase that the child is unaware of what the situation is, yet the audience can feel sympathy for her, due to the specific clips between her and the father, such as when she has her toy then the audience see her father with the toy. Although we do not see the father take the toy from the child, it is insinuated. Where as within the clips of the mother and father, the problem is more explicit.
When editing the shots recently, we discovered that we needed to be more clear about the time frames. We needed to establish the past as being mostly the good times between the family where you see them together, however, there are hints that there was always a problem, and the present for the problems getting bigger and more out of control. We have done this in our edit 5 where by we have shot the past in black and white and the present in colour, to make it more clear to our audience. There is a point in the scene, like there is in the ' love the way you lie' video where two separate scenes merge.Within our scene, the past and the present merge, as we see the man hitting the woman in black and white and then it turns to colour to suggest that this situation is reoccurring.
When editing i took inspiration from that music video, and tried to re-create the voice inside the antagonists head and the actions that happen after. The way it cuts between the man's internal emotions and later violent conduct suggests his uncontrollable anger.
We also needed to remember that the most important part to capture was the relationship between the mother and the daughter to present how although the mother is the protector of the child, she is also a victim.
These are shots from our film, which i feel strongly shows the bond between the mother and the daughter.

This shot is comforting
This shot presents playfulness within the relationship
This shot represents the love and closeness between the two characters.
Editing our experimental footage
we have started our editing on our experimental footage, and made sure that there are no continuity errors as well as taking out shots or parts of shots that are not needed or do not make sense. We are going to continue to edit whilst we plan our final part of filming. We have decided to use premiere which is a high end editing software so that we get the best result possible for our final product.
This is what the software looks like, it allows us to do multiple things such as cut, paste in shots, change the contrast and lighting as well as adding effects.
We decided that we should keep our editing as simple as possible so that it is easy for the audience to follow, but at the same time making it interesting to watch. We decided to make the present in colour, and the past in black and white. However, our edits also consist of fade transitions, pace alteration and saturated shots.
This screen shot is showing how we can compress all our footage together so we can see the entire length. This software also allows you to zoom into specific shots so you can pay attention to detail to get a clean cut finnish.
Ideas on cross cutting
when editing our footage we as a group feel it is important to cross cut between the scenes between the mother and daughter, and the present where the father is being nasty towards the mother, by doing this, it makes the past seem like a memory to the mother, and will make it harder for the audience to watch. The cross cutting between the good times and the bad gives a bigger contrast and makes it more visual for the audience. We were talking as a group and thought it would be most effective if the shots of the mother and daughter were in slow motion to highlight how important their relationship is, where as we should have the father and the mother in real time to present how the fathers confrontational approach is irrational and unjustified.
